In 2012, the Seattle Washington Sounders Women, which is now Sound FC, were her the next team. The Sound FC was located currently in France for this season. She later joined the National Women's Soccer League NWSL (formerly the WPS) which formed in response to the WPS's dissolution. Rapinoe was one of the league's most prolific scorers and eventually became the captain. The U.S. squad was eliminated from the event in Rio. Her debut appearance in the FIFA Women's World Cup took place in 2011. Her contributions contributed to the U.S. team win consecutive Women's World Cup championships in 2015 and 2019. In 2018 she became cocaptain of the national team. Rapinoe has won two bronze medals at her part in the United States' 4-3 win against Australia in the Tokyo Olympics 2020. Japan has been postponed until 2021 because of the COVID-19 virus pandemic.
